Chess Academy is open to all students from grade 3 through grade 9. To make this the most beneficial, enriching and enjoyable experience for the students, there will be a cap on the number of participants that we will be able to facilitate. The maximum number of students we are able to accept will be 24. Having fewer students will enable them to be able to have not only more game play but also one on one teaching with the instructor. They will thus be able to learn the finer points of the game.. Also, the students will be taught more strategies...and will have more hands on fun while mastering the game. The Academy members will also have the opportunity to learn with chess workbooks to enhance their learning experience. Mr. David Nelson, who has graciously volunteered his time for many years now, will continue as the instructor and leader. Mrs. Armstrong will be stepping in for Mrs. Knudsen as staff moderator to assist Mr. Nelson. Snacks will no longer be provided, but can be brought by your child if you would like them to have one. Chess club has been a tremendous success and a lot of fun for students over the years. If your child is serious about wanting to learn about how to play the game of chess under the direction of a great instructor, then please sign up for the Academy! They will have a great time while learning a great game of strategy. Permission slips will be coming home early next week. Please return them to me by October 1st.
